About Charito's Room

Before I first visited Charito, I didn't know much of her living conditions except that she lives in a small room in someone else's home.   When I visited her on her birthday, I found that her room was a lot less than what I imagined it to be.   She lives in this room below ground level, in a wooden house owned by a kind man in a wheelchair.   He shares his home with three families and Charito.   Charito's only relative who stays with her and watches over her is her grandaunt.   Her room's ceiling is less than 6 feet from the floor and has a long crack covered with brown packaging tape.   Her bed is a foam mattress slightly wider than its wooden frame.   A refrigerator borrowed from St. Stephen Parish stands near her bed to keep her medicine potent and within reach.   Come to think of it, just about everything in that small room is within easy reach.   The house's location [Scout Chuatoco, Quezon City] is, fortunately, very convenient for Charito as the clinic she goes to for her dialysis is only minutes away by foot.
